My Goals for Crystal Lake

Collaboration

Working with the city staff and other groups such as the Planning and Zoning committee, Downtown Crystal Lake Association, Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, other local organizations, and the residents, to regularly engage in communication to discuss upcoming events, expand on opportunities, seek input - all to help our community grow TOGETHER.  I am honest and thoughtful in my approach to challenges and believe in trying to solve the hardest problems by looking at things from a different angle.  As a physical therapists, we often find that the pain point is just the symptom, not the source of the problem.  We are challenged to look at how the body as a whole is functioning together and fix the system, not just the symptom.  Local government can be the same way: working together to fix the system is the most productive approach

Community Engagement

One of my main goals is to increase attendance and feedback from Crystal Lake residents at regular council meetings.  Too often, residents get frustrated with plans long after projects have begun.  By engaging the community and residents, I hope to help keep them informed and excited about all that is going on in Crystal Lake and hear their opinions and ideas. I would also like to see an increase in participation in community events. We have many opportunities as a city for residents to be a part of a variety of activities - there is something for everyone.  And if a resident does not feel represented, I would hope they would feel empowered by the community to create an event that showcases their talents.  The more we can get our community members to come out to events, the more the community grows together towards a shared vision.

Commitment to Excellence

One of my favorite quotes (by Paul Hudson) is “Life is too short to settle for something less than spectacular.”  We are proud of Crystal Lake and I will commit to supporting and bringing forward spectacular efforts and ideas that continue to grow our pride in our great city.  We can enhance the lifestyle and experience of Crystal Lake both for residents and visitors.  I will seek to create a better shopping experience with a greater diversity of retail offerings, including independent small businesses as well as national brands.  As a small business owner, I value the hard work and grit it takes to create and maintain a unique offering.  Small businesses reduce the redundancy that appears to be prolific in the retail industry because they bring specialty offerings and a distinct feel.  When you support a  small business, you support your neighbors, friends, and local children because those small businesses go on to support things like little league teams and local races.  This continuum of community support strengthens our value as a community, which allows visitors to see our potential and residents to feel excited.
